Final Call for the 2019 My Place Competition

With our short story competition closing on Friday 16 August, it’s now time for students to produce their final work and for teachers to get busy uploading!

Following the success of last year’s My Place Competition, the ACTF is once again holding a national storytelling contest for primary students in Years 3–6. In line with the book and series format, entrants are asked to tell the fictional story of a child living in the My Place neighbourhood in 2019. We have been inundated with entries since the 2019 My Place Competition opened last week, with Tasmania the most highly represented state so far.

When the competition draws to a close next Friday, ACTF Head of Production Bernadette O’Mahony – who worked as an Executive Producer on both series of My Place – will have the difficult task of judging the short-listed stories in each category. Bernadette will be looking for engaging narratives which tell the story of a fictional current day My Place character, including:

  • The character’s name, background and their family life
  • Clothing and toys the character would have
  • Reference to the fig tree that appears throughout the series.

All students who enter the competition will receive a certificate of participation from the ACTF. Three lucky students from each category, along with their teachers, will also receive the following prizes:

Years 3 and 4

  • 1st place: $75 ACTF Shop vouchers for both the winning student and their teacher, plus a Walker Books prize pack for the winning student.
  • 2nd place: $50 ACTF Shop vouchers for both the winning student and their teacher, plus a Walker Books prize pack for the winning student.
  • 3rd place: $25 ACTF Shop vouchers for both the winning student and their teacher, plus a Walker Books prize pack for the winning student.

Years 5 and 6
