2019 ALEA National Conference: Melbourne, 9-12 July

The Australian Children’s Television Foundation is very proud to be the principal sponsor of this year’s National ALEA Conference, which will be held in Melbourne.

The Australian Literacy Educators’ Association (ALEA) is an independent professional association dedicated to literacy and English language learning, from early childhood through all stages of schooling and tertiary education contexts. One of ALEA’s priorities is providing support and professional development to literacy educators at all stages of their careers, from student and graduate teachers, to more experienced educators.

The annual ALEA National Conference is the association’s largest professional learning event. The 2019 ALEA National Conference will be held in Melbourne from 9 – 12 July. The conference opens on the evening of 9 July, and provides educators with three full days of inspiring professional learning.

This year’s evocative conference theme is Literacy Empowering Voices: Reflecting the Past, Viewing the Present, Scripting the Future. Subthemes that will be explored throughout the conference are:

  • The language of stories: Learning to craft and comprehend text.
  • Literacy as power: Voice, identity and dangerous stories – past, present and future.
  • Literacy capability: Literacy across the curriculum.

Engaging international and national speakers will address the conference themes and subthemes within local, national and international contexts. In addition to these keynote speakers, a variety of concurrent professional learning sessions will highlight examples of exemplary practice with educators. Attendees will have opportunities to network with passionate colleagues from around the country, and to explore the range of quality education resources showcased by exhibitors.

The ACTF Education team will be presenting two workshops at this year’s conference, and sharing our latest content and resources at the ACTF stand. As the National ALEA Conference is being held in our home town of Melbourne this year, we have also been able to provide the hardworking conference committee with meeting rooms for their planning days.
