Drawing on a range of Australian children’s television programs, the Our World on Screen learning resource builds students’ understanding of the many reasons we create and view screen stories – to entertain, to teach, and to communicate ideas, feelings, and culture. Students explore the different ways in which screen stories can be told and reflect on their responses as audience members.
Students are then guided in planning and creating their own screen artwork about our world. Short clips from children’s television, discussion prompts and links to additional resources will support students in developing their art practices and skills. Printable worksheets support students’ planning and encourage their reflection on audience, purpose, and processes. Finally, prompts are provided to prepare students to share their work with an audience.
Depending on your teaching context, the Our World on Screen resource can be explored together with teacher guidance or worked through independently. Teachers are encouraged to modify discussion starters and learning tasks for their students where necessary.
