New Screenrights Cultural Fund Launches

Screenrights has launched a fund to support innovative new projects which will foster the creation and appreciation of screen content in Australia and New Zealand. This year the theme of the Fund is “Education”. Applications are open until 6th July.

The Screenrights Cultural Fund is not a production fund. Rather, it is looking for projects which provide solutions to overcoming barriers to access and use of meaningful screen content for teachers and students in education and training.

Screenrights CEO Simon Lake says that although technology creates a wealth of opportunity, it is not one which is shared equally.

“There remain geographical, technological, skills-based and financial barriers that restrict access for students and educators to meaningful screen content,” he said.

An advisory panel of industry professionals will review applications and make recommendations to the Screenrights Board of Directors for consideration. ACTF CEO Jenny Buckland is on this year’s advisory panel, alongside Independent Screen Professional and former Screen Australia CEO, Richard Harris; NITV Channel Manager Tanya Orman; and the Executive Director of the New Zealand Writers Guild, Alice Shearman.

Applications for the A$200,000 Cultural Fund are now open until 6th July 2018, with applicants invited to apply for individual funding up to A$50,000. Applicants should address the focus on Education and the way in which their project will positively influence the screen industry more broadly.
