Student Webinar: Writing about Our Diverse History with Nadia Wheatley

Since its publication 33 years ago, My Place has been an unwavering favourite in Australian classrooms and homes. Teachers and students now have the unique opportunity to hear author Nadia Wheatley discuss her classic picture book, the importance of writing about our own communities, and find out how she gets her ideas for stories from the place where she lives.

My Place depicts the history of one Australian community through the eyes of the diverse children who lived there, highlighting the ways that First Nations people and immigrants have shaped our national story. In this free webinar for Year 3-6 students, Nadia will share practical tips to develop students’ writing. She will also discuss ways to learn about the diverse history of our own neighbourhoods.

Hosted by the Australian Centre for the Moving Image (ACMI Education) and the ACTF, this Q&A webinar will engage all young writers and inspire those entering the 2021 My Place Competition.

Registrations are now closed.
