A new generation of fans will be introduced to Li’l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers, with the classic animated series being reimagined as a musical.
Li’l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers – The Musical has gone into development under a talented team of creators, led by Writers Republic and Mad About Theatre.
Premiering in 1997, Li’l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers is a unique animated series produced by the Australian Children’s Television Foundation, Viskatoons and France Animations. Set in the iconic outback town of Wannapoo, Australia, it tells the story of a young Australian boy found as a baby inside a guitar case and raised to believe he is the son of the legendary Elvis Presley.
The creative team behind Li’l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers – The Musical includes actor and writer James Millar, known for his portrayal of Mrs. Trunchbull in Matilda, comedian Steph Tisdel, playwright Rachael Chisholm, and Glenn Moorhouse, the musical director behind School of Rock.
Director Madison Thew-Keyworth said: "Li'l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers - The Musical is not just a story; it's an anthem celebrating community spirit, the vibrancy of youth, and rock 'n' roll's enduring charm. Original songs, engaging choreography, and a narrative filled with humour and emotion promise a theatre experience that appeals to all ages.”
ACTF Head of Content Bernadette O’Mahony said: “Li’l Elvis Jones and the Truckstoppers is a clever, funny and unique series, ahead of its time with a totally original story concept, a huge locally trained animation team and First Nations representation. It remains a cult favourite for children of its generation, and reimagining the series as a musical is a terrific way to recreate the magic. The ACTF is excited to see the next iteration of this Australian children’s classic!”
