Ned Beckley and Josh Hogan have received the ‘Best Music for Children’s Television’ prize at this year’s APRA AMCOS Screen Music Awards for Episode 5 of children’s adventure-drama series Thalu.
Beckley and Hogan from Envelope Audio in Fremantle have composed both locally and internationally for film, TV, installation, games and VR. Thalu – ‘Episode 5: Shadow Boxer’ marks the first-time Screen Music Award nomination and win for the duo.
The APRA/AMCOS Screen Music Awards are given to celebrate Australian creators of the most evocative and impactful screen music moments of the year.
Music from Thalu competed in two divisions at this year’s awards: ‘Best Music for Children’s Television’ and ‘Best Television Theme’. Fellow ‘Best Music for Children’s Television’ finalists included Alice Miranda Friends Forever (Ryan Grogan) Bluey (Joff Bush) and The Strange Chores (Joff Bush).
In July, Thalu’s soundtrack was released worldwide. Thalu Co-Producer and Director Tyson Mowarin wrote the theme music and lyrics, and the talented young artists who perform the theme are both from the Roebourne area. Jakeile is one of the lead cast in Thalu, playing the role of Keile; while Koda is a young singer songwriter from Roebourne who has performed in the Songs of Peace concerts locally.
The original television soundtrack for the series – including the winning and nominated Screen Music Award tracks - is available on a range of sites including Spotify, YouTube Music and Deezer.
